Taranto hosts Byzantine historical reenactment event
A historical reenactment event titled ‘The Battle of the 11th Century’ will conclude on Sunday, September 27, in the Parco Storico Naturalistico in Taranto, Italy. The event depicts the Byzantine imperial army, led by General Mariarcha, defeating Norman forces to temporarily re-establish Eastern Empire rule in the region.
Organized by the association ‘I Cavalieri de li Terre Tarentine’ with support from the Ministry of Culture, the ‘living history’ event features dozens of professional reenactors. Activities include an interactive camp with artisans, historical workshops, archery, and falconry shows. The final act of the battle, titled ‘The Epilogue,’ is scheduled for 6:00 PM. The project aims to promote local cultural heritage and slow tourism through educational activities and historical immersion.
