Taranto readies venues and promotion for 2026 Mediterranean Games
Regional officials in Bari presented the official video and anthem for the XX Mediterranean Games, scheduled for 21 August to 3 September 2026 in Taranto. The promotional clip features singer Mietta, music by Roberto Molinelli and the Magna Grecia youth orchestra, and highlights the city’s sea, culture and the new mascot Ionios, a dolphin. The motto of the edition is “Embrace The Future” and 26 nations from Europe, Africa and Asia are expected to compete in 28‑33 sports.
The main venue, the PalaMazzola arena, has been fully renovated and handed over to the city, with upgraded acoustics, energy‑efficient systems and full accessibility. The construction firm Colaninno Costruzioni praised the project as a catalyst for local sport, culture and youth.
The local health authority announced a call for 90 medical operators and 49 ambulances to support the event. Meanwhile, the Italian Olympic Committee confirmed a delegation of about 500 athletes, supported by more than 200 staff, and published the judo squad list for the Games. These coordinated efforts aim to showcase Taranto beyond its industrial image and to boost the Southern Italian economy and tourism.
