Taranto Gears Up for 2026 Mediterranean Games as Ticket Sales Surge and 50‑Day Countdown Begins

Within 24 hours of the ticket launch, 6,500 tickets for the opening ceremony of the 2026 Mediterranean Games in Taranto were sold online through the official Vivaticket platform. Prices range from €15 for Category A, €25 for Category B and €40 for Category C. The opening ceremony is scheduled for 20:00 on 21 August 2026 at the renovated Erasmo Iacovone Stadium, with a closing ceremony set for 3 September.

As the event approaches its 50‑day mark, city officials and national ministers gathered at the University of Bari’s Jonico Department to review construction progress and present the Games’ official medal and promotional video. The meeting was chaired by committee president Massimo Ferrarese and included International Games Committee president Mehrez Boussayene, Sports Minister Andrea Abodi, European Affairs Minister Tommaso Foti, Puglia President Antonio Decaro and Taranto Mayor Pietro Bitetti. Organisers highlighted completed facilities such as Olympic‑size sea‑front pools, an outdoor athletics track, an indoor arena, a skatepark, tennis and padel courts, a skating rink and the new Iacovone stadium, noting that the urban park Salinella is nearing completion. The Games will host thousands of athletes from Mediterranean nations, showcasing extensive infrastructure upgrades for the city.
