Taranto seeks to host EU Pact for the Mediterranean initiative
The Conference of Mayors of the Province of Taranto has expressed support for Taranto to host an institutional initiative related to the European Union’s Pact for the Mediterranean. This proposal, advanced by Taranto City Council President Gianni Liviano, aims to leverage the upcoming Mediterranean Games to foster long-term cooperation.
The Pact for the Mediterranean, launched by the EU in November 2025, has entered its operational phase. It focuses on strategic sectors including youth, universities, education, economy, energy, the blue economy, security, and migration management. Proponents believe the candidacy will allow the Taranto province to utilize its local expertise to build new Mediterranean relations and move beyond the purely sporting aspects of the Mediterranean Games.
