Tarapacá advances in agricultural innovation and energy storage

The Tarapacá region in Chile is seeing advancements in both agricultural innovation and energy infrastructure. Andrés Gálmez, executive director of the Foundation for Agricultural Innovation (FIA), visited regional projects focused on desert productivity. A key initiative at Universidad Arturo Prat involves the production of salicornia using seawater, which offers potential for human and animal consumption while helping treat high-salinity water from desalination plants.

Simultaneously, the BESS Patache project is progressing south of Iquique. This energy storage initiative involves an estimated investment of 300 million dollars, featuring 300 megawatts of power and a capacity of 1,500 megawatt-hours. The project, which is currently between 31% and 33% complete, aims to enhance the flexibility and security of the electrical system by better managing renewable energy sources.
