Tarapacá officials urged to increase surveillance after Aedes aegypti detection
Senator Danisa Astudillo has called on the Tarapacá Health Seremi to strengthen prevention, inspection, and sanitary surveillance in the region following the detection of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. The findings include adult specimens, larvae, and eggs.
The Aedes aegypti mosquito is a known vector for diseases such as dengue, Zika, yellow fever, and chikungunya. Due to the constant circulation of people and goods in northern Chile, the senator has requested a detailed report on existing prevention and control plans.
Astudillo proposed intensifying inspections and fumigation in high-traffic areas, including passenger and food transport vehicles, buses, trucks, terminals, distribution centers, and open-air markets. She also recommended extending surveillance to cemeteries, educational establishments, and health centers to prevent the mosquito from becoming a major sanitary problem.
