Tarapacá students learn history of Alto Barranco railway station

More than 100 students from the Caleta San Marcos School participated in an educational experience regarding the history of the former Alto Barranco railway station. The initiative, driven by the Corporación Regional de Desarrollo Tarapacá, used an itinerant exhibition to teach students about the historical railway line and its role in the region's economic development.

Through interactive tools including information panels, audiovisual capsules, games, theater, and augmented reality, students explored the era of 1872. During this period, the 93-kilometer railway connected the saltpeter pampa with the port of Patillos to facilitate nitrate transport. The project aims to connect new generations with the historical heritage and identity of the Tarapacá territory. The initiative is funded by Teck Quebrada Blanca through the Fondo Patrimonio Cultural Litoral Arqueológico Tarapaqueño.
