Tarcísio de Freitas receives R$ 500,000 individual campaign donations
Campaign finance data reveals that São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas has received significant individual donations for his reelection bid. The largest single contributions to his campaign amount to R$ 500,000 each, provided by Fernando de Castro Marques, owner of the pharmaceutical group União Química, and agribusiness entrepreneur Guilherme Mognon Scheffer.
Marques, a figure associated with the Bolsonaro movement, previously criticized the vaccine production monopoly held by Fiocruz and Butantan during the pandemic. Other notable individual contributors to de Freitas include Elie Horn, former president of the Cyrela group, who donated R$ 325,000.
In comparison, the largest individual donations to Fernando Haddad reached only R$ 5,000. Total individual donations for de Freitas amount to R$ 1.325 million, which is 88 times the R$ 15,000 received by Haddad in the same category. Regarding party funding, de Freitas received R$ 7.8 million from the Republicanos National Directorate, while Haddad received R$ 8.059 million from the PT National Directorate.
