Tarija faces wildfires and LPG shortages

An active wildfire in the Calderilla Chica community within the Tarija municipality is causing significant logistical challenges for emergency responders. Due to steep terrain and difficult access, crews must trek approximately four hours to reach the affected areas. Álvaro Baldiviezo, director of the Tarija Municipal Risk Management Unit (UGR), stated that authorities are evaluating the use of helicopters for water drops to assist the 40 personnel currently working on the scene and to reduce physical exhaustion and risk to firefighters.

Simultaneously, the Departmental Federation of Peasants of Tarija has declared a state of emergency. Herbert Quispe, the federation's executive, reported a critical shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in rural communities. Quispe criticized the lack of responsiveness from state institutions, noting that promised weekend deliveries failed to arrive, prompting constant mobilization among the affected populations.
