Tarique Rahman pledges military modernization and domestic defense industry growth

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has pledged to modernize Bangladesh’s armed forces to meet evolving global security challenges. Speaking at a National Standard award ceremony at Savar Cantonment, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for integrated defense capabilities across land, sea, and air, specifically highlighting the importance of cyberspace, artificial intelligence, drones, and electronic warfare.

To bolster national sovereignty, the government aims to establish a domestic defense industry to produce essential weapons, ammunition, and equipment. Rahman noted that while technology is vital, it cannot replace human resources; therefore, the military must focus on discipline, leadership, and professionalism.

During the ceremony, seven units of the 9th Infantry Division were presented with the National Standard. The Prime Minister urged the armed forces to remain steadfast in upholding the Constitution, military regulations, and humanitarian values, stressing that public trust is a fundamental component of military strength.
