Tarique Rahman urges youth and officials to lead environmental protection efforts
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on the youth and government officials to take proactive roles in environmental protection and public health initiatives. During a visit to Mirpur Bangla College, the Prime Minister addressed members of the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps and Scouts, urging them to lead efforts in building a clean and green Bangladesh to ensure a healthy environment for future generations.
Addressing the challenges of high population density, particularly in Dhaka, the Prime Minister emphasized that collective efforts are necessary to maintain urban cleanliness. He specifically highlighted the link between hygiene and disease prevention, noting that destroying mosquito breeding grounds is a critical strategy for combating dengue. To support these efforts, the government is prioritizing cleanliness drives every Saturday through November.
In a separate meeting with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the Prime Minister urged officials to go beyond their routine duties to address environmental degradation. Key objectives discussed include the conservation of mother trees within six months, expanding afforestation in the Chattogram Hill Tracts, and addressing severe air pollution in Dhaka. He also encouraged the promotion of rooftop and school gardening to increase green spaces.
