Tarragona designates six sites for August 12 solar eclipse, capacity over 57,000

The city of Tarragona has prepared a map identifying six main observation points for the total solar eclipse on 12 August. The locations – Parc de l’Anella Mediterrània (≈10,000 people), the Bonavista site near the Buenos Aires neighbourhood (≈15,000), Marina Port Tarraco (≈20,000), Parc Francolí (≈1,500), the Sant Pere i Sant Pau football field (≈4,000) and the Sescelades parking area (≈7,000) – together can host more than 57,000 spectators. Selections were based on computer simulations and on‑site inspections, focusing on spaciousness, safe access, clear sightlines and protection of the environment.

Municipal officials advise residents to view the eclipse from home balconies or terraces when possible, use certified eclipse glasses, and avoid beaches, natural or forested zones, which offer poor visibility and could cause traffic or environmental problems.
