Energy infrastructure projects advance in Spain and Mexico

Spain is accelerating its renewable hydrogen infrastructure. The Ministry for the Ecological Transition has initiated urgent processing for the first 234 kilometers of the country’s renewable hydrogen trunk network. Developed by Enagás, these segments are part of European Projects of Common Interest (PCI) and require an estimated investment of 389 million euros. Key projects include the Catalina project in Teruel, which involves a 75 km duct from Caspe to Tivissa, and segments in Andalusia and the Basque Country. These pipelines are intended to facilitate the H2Med corridor, connecting the Iberian Peninsula with Central Europe.

In Mexico, the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) has included a 20 MW green hydrogen project in its 2026-2030 expansion schemes. This move is part of a larger development program involving 72 generation projects with a total investment of approximately 492,299 million pesos. The inclusion of hydrogen signals a shift toward diversifying the National Electric System through clean technologies.

Additionally, infrastructure developments are underway in Catalonia. The Department of Territory, Housing, and Ecological Transition has tendered 14.4 million euros for works in Vila-seca, including a new viaduct and pedestrian underpass to support the implementation of the TramCamp light rail system between Cambrils Nord and Vila-seca Estació.
