Tarragona to Distribute Tens of Thousands of Free Eclipse Glasses Ahead of August 12 Solar Event

The Tarragona city council will begin handing out around 23,000 certified solar‑eclipse glasses on 15 July, free of charge, to enable residents to watch the August 12 eclipse safely. Glasses can be collected at municipal offices, civic centres, sports facilities, pharmacies and social‑care sites, with a limit of four pairs per person until supplies run out. In parallel, the council is issuing 15,000 informational leaflets with safety guidance.

The local newspaper Diari de Tarragona will publish a 16‑page special on 17 July that includes expert analysis and details about observation locations in Tarragona, Reus and Salou, which together could accommodate more than 57,000 spectators. The supplement will also distribute certified glasses to readers, accompanied by usage instructions to prevent eye injury.
