Tarragona to Host Festival Celebrating Total Solar Eclipse on Aug 12

The city of Tarragona will hold a two‑day public festival around the total solar eclipse on 12 August. On Tuesday 11 August, the official countdown will begin at the Parc de l'Amfiteatre with live music by the band BUMT, inflatable displays and performances by local casteller groups.

On Wednesday, the main celebration moves to Marina Port Tarraco, one of the city’s prime viewing points. Activities will include DJ sets, a virtual‑reality eclipse experience, a live concert by Quartet Mèlt, and a special show called “Origen”. Mayor Rubén Viñuales highlighted the event as an opportunity to showcase Tarragona and bring together culture, music and scientific outreach for all residents.

The programme also features a Sindriada ceremony, participation from the Tarragona Port Authority, and provisions for meteorological monitoring to ensure safe viewing.
