Tasmac announces salary hikes and welfare benefits for retail staff

Minister K. Vignesh has announced a significant salary increase for Tasmac retail employees, effective September 1. The pay hike follows four rounds of negotiations with union representatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of staff who have served for 23 years.

Under the new structure, supervisors will receive up to ₹33,023, salespersons up to ₹30,284, and assistant salespersons up to ₹28,680. This adjustment is expected to increase government expenditure by approximately ₹486.90 crore annually.

Additional welfare measures include a ₹20,000 festival advance for new employees and an annual ₹6,000 allowance for uniforms and tailoring. To maintain shop standards, monthly funds will be allocated for cleanliness and basic amenities: ₹5,000 for urban shops, ₹4,000 for municipal/town panchayat shops, and ₹3,000 for rural outlets.

Labor reforms also include implementing eight-hour shifts, one weekly day off, and two paid casual leaves per month. Furthermore, the government will invest ₹2.58 crore in modern equipment and vehicles for the prohibition enforcement wing and ₹1.69 crore to digitize services via the e-governance portal. The Minister also warned that employees found selling liquor at inflated prices will face dismissal.
