TASMAC to mandate digital payments over Rs 500 and new staff uniforms
The Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) is implementing new operational policies for its retail liquor outlets. The corporation plans to mandate digital payments for all purchases exceeding Rs 500. This move aims to reduce cash handling, improve transaction transparency, and mitigate the risk of robbery and theft during the transport of large daily cash volumes.
Additionally, TASMAC staff will be required to wear prescribed uniforms starting November 15, 2026. The policy mandates specific color schemes for supervisors and salesmen to ensure a professional appearance across the state's 4,048 retail shops. To maintain fabric uniformity, employees must procure approved materials from state-owned Co-Optex outlets. The government has sanctioned an annual uniform allowance of Rs 6,000 per employee to support this initiative.
