Tasos Fountoglou Criticizes Delays in Ptolemaida Oncology Center

Tasos Fountoglou, deputy regional governor for health in Western Macedonia, spoke about recent developments at the oncology centre of the Ptolemaida Hospital. Referring to himself as “the son of Frosoi,” he said he felt compelled to address the long‑standing lack of local oncology services that forced families to travel hundreds of kilometres for treatment.

He thanked those who helped launch the project and condemned recent “political small‑time” actions that he described as “mere talk with ministerial signatures.” Fountoglou highlighted that the centre’s design, prepared two years earlier with regional governor George Amanatidis, originally included both a radiotherapy unit and an oncology clinic. He also thanked hospital administrator Demetris Tsalikakis for his support, while urging that the memory of past struggles be honoured and protected.

The statements came after the centre announced a new operational step intended to calm public frustration, a move Fountoglou said only partially alleviates the hurt caused by years of neglect.
