Taste Atlas ranks Karlovy Vary wafers among world's worst breads

The international food portal Taste Atlas has released a ranking of the 100 worst-rated breads globally, based on user reviews. The traditional Czech specialty, Karlovy Vary wafers (Karlovarský suchar), placed third on the list with a score of 2.4 out of 5.

According to the portal, the ranking is based on thousands of legitimate user ratings, filtering out bots and local bias. The two breads rated lower than the Czech wafers are the Chilean chapalele, which ranked last with a score of 2.0, and chikwanga from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which scored 2.3.

Karlovy Vary wafers are a protected European Union product made using Karlovy Vary spring water. While they hold a protected geographical indication, they received low marks for their flavor profile. Other Czech baked goods, such as jidáše, also appeared in the bottom 100, ranking at 20th place.
