Taste Atlas global bread popularity rankings
Overview
The food portal Taste Atlas released global bread rankings based on user reviews, utilizing a methodology that filtered out bot activity and reviews driven by nationalism or local patriotism. To maintain accuracy, the platform assigned higher weight to votes from users identified as knowledgeable.
Initial reports highlighted various items appearing in the lower rankings, including Switzerland’s Fastenwähe, China’s Gai mei bao and Hua juan, Colombia’s Mogolla, the USA’s Bulkie Roll, Ireland’s Waterford Blaa, and Morocco’s Krachel. While German breads did not reach the top 20, Pumpernickel from North Rhine-Westphalia was noted at 22nd place.
Subsequent details regarding the 100 worst-rated breads identified the Czech specialty Karlovy Vary wafers as ranking third with a score of 2.4 out of 5. The wafers, which are a protected European Union product, were surpassed only by the Chilean chapalele and chikwanga from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Other Czech baked goods, such as jidáše, also appeared in the bottom 100 at 20th place.
