Tata and Toyota announce major vehicle update plans in India

Major automotive manufacturers are preparing significant product updates and new generations for the Indian market.

Tata Motors is developing the next generation of its compact SUV, the Nexon, under the internal codename ‘Project Garuda’. Expected to debut in 2027, the new model may utilize the ATLAS or an updated X1 architecture. Spy images suggest a more boxy, upright design intended to increase interior headroom. While petrol and CNG engine options are expected to continue, the future of the diesel variant remains uncertain. The update is anticipated to include a redesigned dashboard and enhanced connectivity features.

Meanwhile, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is planning to launch three updated models over the next 12 months. This lineup includes a potential facelift for the Glanza hatchback, featuring cosmetic changes such as a new radiator grille and updated alloy wheels. Additionally, a facelifted version of the Innova Hycross is expected early next year, drawing design inspiration from the ninth-generation Hilux. By mid-next year, Toyota may also introduce the fourth-generation Fortuner, which is expected to feature a more powerful engine and a redesigned exterior and interior.
