Overview

In May 2026, Tata Motors launched a refreshed Tiago hatchback and Tiago EV. The updates featured redesigned exteriors, larger infotainment systems, and digital instrument clusters. The Tiago EV was positioned as a highly affordable electric option, featuring battery-as-a-service (BaaS) schemes and various range capabilities.

On 23 June, Tata announced a multi-year growth plan targeting fifteen passenger-vehicle nameplates by FY 2031, a production capacity of 1.3 million units, and a capex of ₹37,500–₹40,000 crore. This was reinforced by the $4.4 billion acquisition of Iveco’s commercial-vehicle business, aiming to create a major global CV operation.

A major milestone occurred on 30 June with the launch of the Sierra EV, an electric midsize SUV offering both rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive variants. The Sierra EV features a premium triple-screen cockpit and battery packs up to 75 kWh, with a certified range of up to 665 km. Deliveries for the Sierra EV began in mid-July.

In August 2026, Tata implemented a month-long discount programme. This included up to ₹1.45 lakh off the Tiago EV and Punch EV, up to ₹1.25 lakh on the Curvv EV, and various rebates on conventional models such as the Nexon, Altroz, and Harrier. Future plans include the launch of the Safari EV and expansion of the electric portfolio to ten models by the end of the decade.
