Tata Electronics expands India semiconductor manufacturing footprint

Tata Electronics is expanding its semiconductor footprint in India through strategic partnerships and new facility developments. The company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Japan-based Sumitomo Chemical to strengthen the domestic semiconductor materials supply chain. This collaboration will focus on supplying essential materials, such as photoresists and high-purity chemicals, to Tata Electronics’ upcoming 12-inch semiconductor Fab in Dholera, Gujarat. The two firms are also exploring the possibility of manufacturing these materials locally in India.

Simultaneously, Tata Electronics’ semiconductor OSAT facility in Jagiroad, Assam, has commenced trial production runs. The facility is currently operating at approximately one-fourth of its planned capacity, with commercial operations expected to begin between December and January. Once fully operational, the plant is projected to produce up to 48 million semiconductor chips daily for sectors including automotive, telecommunications, and consumer electronics. The Assam project represents an investment of Rs 27,000 crore and is expected to create approximately 27,000 direct and indirect jobs.
