Tata Group expands semiconductor and automotive technology footprint in India

The Tata Group is significantly expanding its footprint in the semiconductor and automotive sectors in India. In the semiconductor industry, Tata Electronics has commenced pilot chip production at its assembly and test facility in Jagiroad, Assam. This project involves an investment of approximately Rs 27,000 crore. Additionally, Tata Electronics has signed an MoU with Dutch supplier Besi to develop advanced semiconductor packaging capabilities at the Assam site, part of a planned $3 billion facility.

In the automotive sector, Tata Motors and Stellantis have entered a definitive agreement to collaborate on advanced vehicle technology and architecture. This partnership allows Stellantis to access Tata’s India-developed technology to develop vehicles for over 50 global markets. These collaborative vehicles are slated for manufacture in India through the Fiat India Automobiles Private Limited joint venture.

Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran emphasized that semiconductors are fundamental to India's future and that the country is well-positioned to join the global supply chain due to its talent pool and domestic market. He noted that the group is also working on a major semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat, in partnership with PSMC.
