Tata Motors and Welspun Renewable Energy launch 86 MW hybrid wind‑solar project in India

Tata Motors Ltd. and Welspun Renewable Energy Private Limited have signed a long‑term Power Purchase Agreement to co‑develop an 86 MW wind‑solar hybrid power plant. The project will supply clean electricity exclusively to Tata Motors' commercial‑vehicle manufacturing facilities in Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Karnataka.

The hybrid facility is expected to generate about 200 million units of renewable electricity each year and offset more than 140,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually, helping Tata Motors meet its RE100 commitment by 2030 and its broader net‑zero emissions target. Tata Motors Vice President of Operations Vishal Badshah highlighted the initiative’s role in greening manufacturing, while Welspun Renewable Energy MD Kapil Maheshwari said the partnership demonstrates how large‑scale industrial players can accelerate decarbonisation.

The collaboration is positioned as a model for Indian manufacturers seeking reliable, large‑scale renewable energy to improve energy security and sustainability.
