Tata Motors rolls out new electric SUVs and expands product range in India

Tata Motors announced the launch of its Sierra EV, an electric midsize SUV slated for a June 30 debut in India. The model is part of a broader strategy to grow the company’s passenger‑vehicle portfolio from nine to 15 nameplates by FY2031 and to raise annual manufacturing capacity from about 900,000 to 1.3 million units.

The firm also reported that its Commercial Vehicles division has secured more than 3,400 orders for electric vehicles, covering small commercial trucks and pickups, medium‑ and heavy‑duty trucks, and electric buses. These orders highlight the growing mainstream acceptance of electric powertrains in India’s commercial‑vehicle market.

In its longer‑term plan, Tata Motors aims for electric vehicles to represent 30 % of its passenger‑vehicle sales by FY2031, targeting annual EV volumes of roughly 350,000‑400,000 units. Upcoming releases include the Safari EV and the Avinya EV range, expanding the EV lineup to ten models by decade’s end.
