Tata Motors to launch Nexon as Tata Osprey in South Africa in Q3 2026
Tata Motors has confirmed that its popular Nexon compact SUV will be rebadged as the Tata Osprey for the South African market. The vehicle is slated for launch in the third quarter of 2026. The new name references the osprey bird, chosen to give the model a local identity. The Osprey will retain the Nexon's safety credentials, including five‑star Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP ratings, which Tata expects to promote heavily in South Africa where crash safety is increasingly important.
The introduction expands Tata's passenger‑vehicle portfolio in South Africa, which already includes the Tiago, Punch, Curvv and Harrier, and follows the company's re‑entry into the market in August 2025. Tata officials highlighted growing demand among South African buyers for vehicles that combine modern styling, advanced technology, practicality and strong value for money.
Detailed specifications for the South African‑market Osprey have not yet been disclosed, but the model is expected to closely mirror the Indian‑spec Nexon.
