Tata Motors launches Sierra EV SUV with 665 km range amid surge in Indian EV bookings

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles unveiled the Sierra EV, a mid‑size electric SUV priced between ₹18.79 lakh and ₹24.79 lakh. It offers two battery packs – 63 kWh and 75 kWh – delivering a certified 665 km range for the larger pack and a real‑world 510–530 km range. Performance figures include a dual‑motor all‑wheel‑drive system with 504 Nm torque and a 0–100 km/h sprint in about 5.8 seconds. The model features a premium cabin with triple‑screen “Theatre Pro” displays, Dolby Atmos sound, a 622‑litre boot, panoramic sunroof and a suite of driver‑assistance technologies.

The launch follows a three‑fold jump in Tata’s EV bookings after the West Asia war and rising fuel prices, with the company reporting 14,800 EV deliveries in June 2026 – a 183 % year‑on‑year increase – and EVs accounting for 23 % of total sales. One in three new bookings that month was for an electric vehicle. Tata also announced plans to supply 300 EV chassis to be used as noise‑ and emission‑free safari vehicles in Vidarbha.

Looking ahead, Tata Motors projects that India’s EV market could reach one million units annually by FY31, with EVs making up more than 30 % of its passenger‑car sales. The Sierra EV is positioned as a flagship model to drive that growth.
