Tata Power ramps up solar output and readies first exports to Europe

Tata Power’s solar manufacturing arm, TP Solar, posted a record first‑quarter production of 1,001 MW of modules and 862 MW of cells, driving a 53 % rise in revenue to INR 2,462 crore and a 287 % jump in profit after tax to INR 371 crore. About 63 % of module sales and over half of cell output were sold to external customers. The company is advancing a 10‑GW ingot‑and‑wafer facility and has secured land in the Gopalpur SEZ for the project. Its rooftop‑solar segment installed 371 MWp, earning INR 1,350 crore in revenue and INR 145 crore in profit, taking cumulative rooftop capacity to 5.2 GWp for more than 480 000 customers. Tata Power now reports a total renewable portfolio of 12 GW, including 5.3 GW under construction.

The firm also announced plans to export solar equipment to Europe for the first time, targeting Italy with an initial 2‑3 GW of cells and panels. The move aligns with the European Union’s Net‑Zero Industry Act, which seeks to reduce dependence on Chinese suppliers. Tata Power currently operates 4.9 GW of integrated cell‑module capacity and aims to expand to 10 GW of ingot‑and‑wafer production. Successful entry into the EU market would bolster India’s position as a renewable‑energy supplier, though competition from lower‑cost Chinese modules and EU certification requirements remain challenges.
