Tata Power Renewable Energy launches 800 MW hybrid wind‑solar project in Andhra Pradesh

Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) has begun construction of an 800 MW hybrid renewable project in Andhra Pradesh, India. The development includes a 400 MW solar plant on 2,700 acres at Pattikonda in Kurnool district and a 400 MW wind farm on 760 acres at Kanekallu in Anantaur district, with Suzlon serving as the EPC contractor for the wind component. The scheme incorporates a 200 MW firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) allocation for NTPC, supported by a 25 MW/50 MWh battery energy storage system, while the remaining 200 MW solar capacity is earmarked for future use. The project will generate roughly 4,000 direct and indirect jobs during construction and operation. State Minister Nara Lokesh laid the foundation stone, describing Andhra Pradesh’s clean‑energy potential as comparable to the “Saudi Arabia of Clean Energy” and highlighting plans for green hydrogen and ammonia production for export to global markets. The initiative is part of a broader push to boost India’s renewable capacity and energy self‑sufficiency.
