Tata Power wins 324 MW pumped‑hydro storage award from SE C I in Maharashtra

Tata Power has been granted a Letter of Award by the Solar Energy Corp. of India (SECI) to supply 324 MW (2,592 MWh) of pumped‑hydro energy storage at its Bhivpuri project in Raigad district, Maharashtra. The capacity, part of a 1 GW pumped‑storage scheme, will provide eight hours of storage and will be connected to the 765/400 kV South Kalamb CTU substation. Under the award, Tata Power must commence delivery within 36 months and will operate the facility for 40 years under a fixed annual capacity charge and loss framework.

The contract is one of several awarded in SECI’s recent 1,580 MW tender, which also went to Greenko Energies (720 MW) and Torrent Energy Storage (300 MW). The tender supports India’s broader push to expand pumped‑storage capacity, which currently includes 11 operating projects (15,870 MW) and dozens more under construction or planning, with an identified potential of about 224 GW nationwide.
