Tay Ninh Police warn of social media impersonation scams

Authorities in Tay Ninh province have issued a warning regarding a growing fraud tactic involving the takeover of social media accounts, such as Zalo and Facebook, to impersonate acquaintances.

Scammers gain control of an account and observe the victim's communication patterns, including how they address friends, family, and business partners. This information is used to craft natural-sounding messages to build trust. Once a sense of urgency is established—often citing medical emergencies, urgent payments, or financial crises—the perpetrator requests immediate money transfers.

The threat extends beyond direct theft; compromised accounts are also used to distribute malicious links to the victim's contact list. If recipients click these links and provide login credentials on fraudulent pages, they risk becoming the next victims of account hijacking.
