Taylor Farms recalls various products over Salmonella risk

A major food recall is underway involving various ready-to-eat products due to potential Salmonella contamination. The issue stems from jalapeño peppers traced to a supplier in Sinaloa, Mexico, distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors.

Taylor Farms is recalling finished products containing these jalapeños, which are sold at several major retailers including Target, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Walmart, Hannaford, and Kroger. Specific items affected vary by state; for instance, certain mango pico de gallo and spicy guacamole products are limited to Ohio and Texas, while taco dip recalls affect Florida, Ohio, and Texas.

In Texas, HEB has removed a wide range of items from its inventory, including NatureBest pico de gallo, chopped jalapeños, stuffed mushrooms, and various soup kits. HEB also recalled prepared items like fresh guacamole, shrimp cocktails, and Mexican-style corn salads that shared facilities or ingredients with the contaminated peppers.

The FDA and CDC are investigating the outbreak of Salmonella Javiana. Health officials warn that Salmonella can cause serious or even fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
