TCE-MA orders former mayors to repay funds for irregularities

The Maranhão State Court of Accounts (TCE-MA) has ordered several former mayors to return funds to the public treasury and pay fines due to irregularities in municipal agreements.

Specifically, Claudio Luiz Lima Cunha, former mayor of Apicum-Açu, was ordered to return R$ 200,000 and pay a R$ 40,000 fine for failing to prove the application of resources intended for hospital service expansions. In Nova Iorque, former mayor Airton Aquino Mota must return R$ 120,000 and pay a R$ 24,000 fine due to a lack of accountability regarding urban paving agreements. Additionally, former mayors Djalma de Melo Machado and Rui Fernandes Ribeiro Filho of Arari were held responsible for a R$ 196,000 debt and a R$ 39,200 fine related to street paving funds.

The court also reviewed various other municipal accounts, including the disapproval of accounts for Marlene Silva Miranda in Bom Lugar and Raimunda da Silva Almeida in Fernando Falcão for the 2024 period.
