TDT technical update introduces 4K UHD channels on November 5

Starting November 5 at 8:00, the Digital Terrestrial Television (TDT) system will undergo a significant technical update, introducing the first 4K Ultra High Definition (UHD) channels. The new channels include La 1 UHD, La 2 UHD, Antena 3 UHD, and Telecinco UHD.

To access these 4K broadcasts, television sets must support the DVB-T2 standard and the HEVC (H.265) codec. Having a 4K-capable screen does not guarantee compatibility; older receivers, particularly those manufactured before 2017, may lack the necessary technical standards. However, existing HD versions of these channels will remain available, meaning users with older hardware will not lose signal entirely, though they will be unable to view the ultra-high-definition versions.

Additionally, a new generalist channel named La Séptima will debut in HD. While it does not require DVB-T2 support, all users will need to rescan their television channels to accommodate the new signal and changes in the channel lineup positions.
