Tech Girls Club launches AI and data science training for Nigerian girls
The Tech Girls Club organized the ‘AI/Data Science for Her 2026’ programme across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, including Ilorin, Yola, Port Harcourt, Zaria, Nsukka, and Ibadan. The initiative aims to address the gender gap in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) by providing practical skills such as Python programming and Microsoft Excel.
While women outnumber men in global higher education, UNESCO reports they account for only 35 per cent of STEM graduates. In Nigeria, the National Bureau of Statistics indicates women represent approximately 22 per cent of STEM graduates. The programme seeks to move beyond mere hardware access to provide the meaningful knowledge and practical application necessary to empower female students.
