TEDi takes over Woolworth's Polish discount stores

German discount retailer TEDi is acquiring the Polish operations of its sister company Woolworth. The deal covers roughly 72‑74 stores and more than 500 employees, ending Woolworth's brief presence in Poland after entering the market in May 2023.

TEDi CEO Petar Burazin said the acquisition is a “milestone on the way to strengthening our position in this attractive market” and outlined plans to expand TEDi’s footprint to about 600 stores in Poland, with a longer‑term goal of 5,000‑10,000 outlets across Europe. The transaction amount was not disclosed. The move follows Woolworth’s recent financial losses in Poland, where revenues fell short of expectations.

The acquisition is part of TEDi’s broader expansion strategy, which already operates around 3,700 stores in 15 European countries and aims to open dozens of new locations each year.
