Tedi to absorb Woolworth's 76 Polish stores, expanding discount chain

German discount retailer Tedi is finalising the purchase of 76 Woolworth stores in Poland, part of an internal reorganisation within the same capital group. The acquisition will rebrand the former Woolworth outlets, including the store in Gliwice, under the Tedi banner and integrate the existing staff, preserving jobs for more than 500 employees. Woolworth entered the Polish market in May 2023 with ambitions for up to 1,000 stores, later scaled back to around 70 locations; the takeover marks the end of the Woolworth brand in the country. After the deal, Tedi will operate roughly 372 stores in Poland and aims to reach a total of 5,000 stores across Europe. The integration is being overseen by senior Tedi manager Miroslaw Huczek.
