Teen injured in critical condition after diving accident at Peraias beach, Thessaloniki

On the afternoon of 8 July 2026, a male teenager estimated to be 16‑17 years old suffered serious injuries after diving into shallow waters at the Skala Peraias area of Thessaloniki’s Peraias beach. Lifeguards on the scene rescued him and an EKAB ambulance rushed him to the Hippocrates Hospital, where he remains in critical condition with severe head and neck trauma and has undergone emergency surgery.

The Central Coast Guard of Thessaloniki issued a public appeal for information to identify the injured youth and locate his relatives, noting that his physical description is known but his identity is not. The maritime authority has opened a pre‑investigative probe into the circumstances of the dive.
