Germany sees surge of traffic accidents injuring cyclists and e‑scooter riders

A series of traffic incidents across German regions and neighbouring Austria resulted in numerous injuries. In Rheinfelden, a car collided with a pedelec, leaving a 53‑year‑old rider seriously hurt. In Eisenach, an uninsured e‑scooter rider tested positive for drugs and faced legal action. A 62‑year‑old driver in Sondershausen was halted after dangerous driving that endangered other motorists. Multiple accidents were reported in the Reutlingen area, including a bus‑sprinter collision, a stone‑throwing incident from a footbridge, and a child struck while cycling. Schwerin and the Ludwigslust‑Parchim district saw three serious crashes involving a wheelchair user, a teenage e‑scooter rider and a pedelec rider. A bus carrying 33 holiday children collided with a VW Golf on the B41 near Bretzenheim; all passengers escaped unharmed. Berlin experienced two severe cyclist injuries, one from a car impact and another from a semi‑tractor‑trailer. Frankfurt recorded several e‑scooter crashes, causing serious injuries to riders and a senior cyclist. An Austrian e‑scooter crash in Vomperbach also left two people injured. Police investigations are ongoing in many cases, focusing on cause and liability.
