Teenager found dead after drowning in Banten government center retention pond

A 15-year-old boy, identified as Jaka Wijaya, was found dead after drowning in the retention pond at the Banten Provincial Government Center (KP3B) in Serang, Indonesia. The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 20.

According to the Joint SAR Team, the victim was swimming or on a boat with friends when he reportedly fell into a deep depression or depression-like area at the bottom of the pond, known locally as a 'sluping'. One report suggests the victim fell into the water after being in the middle of the lake, while another indicates he entered a deep section of the pond that made it impossible for his friends to rescue him.

A search operation involving more than 20 personnel, including divers and rubber boats, was launched following reports of the incident. The victim's body was recovered at approximately 18:07 and was subsequently transported to Bhayangkara Hospital.
