Queens teenager shot near Rufus King Park playground
A 14-year-old boy was shot in the leg on Sunday evening near Rufus King Park in Queens, New York. The incident occurred around 4:50 p.m. near the intersection of 153rd Street and Jamaica Avenue, just steps away from a children’s playground.
The NYPD reported that the gunman, described as wearing an all-black outfit, fled the scene on foot. Emergency medical services transported the teenager to Jamaica Hospital, where he is currently listed in stable condition.
Witnesses at the scene described hearing loud bangs. One neighbor reported seeing a group of teenagers leaving the park following the gunfire, while another individual present in the park expressed concern regarding safety and the ability to use the public space following the attack. Authorities have not yet determined a motive or whether the teenager was the intended target. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
