Tehran and Tabriz approve free public transit extensions

Major Iranian cities have approved extensions for free public transportation services to assist citizens during the start of the new school year and manage urban traffic.

In Tabriz, the City Council has approved a one-month period of free transit for the city's metro and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems. This measure, effective from September 13 to October 14, aims to reduce traffic congestion coinciding with the reopening of schools and the ‘Iran Jan’ programs. Statistics indicate that Tabriz's metro Line 1 carries approximately 70,000 passengers daily, while the bus system serves roughly 370,000 passengers per day.

In Tehran, the City Council has voted to extend free metro and BRT services for an additional two months. The decision was made to support students and facilitate travel during the upcoming academic season. Under this resolution, services will remain free through the end of October, after which fare structures will be determined based on new municipal resolutions.
