Tehran police seize opium and 22,000 narcotic tablets from herbalist shop

Police in southern Tehran have dismantled a drug distribution center operating out of a local herbalist shop. Following intelligence gathering and a judicial warrant, officers raided the premises and arrested the suspect.

During the search, authorities seized 770 grams of opium, 90 liters of methadone syrup, and 22,000 tablets of methadone and tramadol. The suspect has been handed over to judicial authorities for legal proceedings.

Colonel Ali Asgari, head of the Fateb Anti-Narcotics Police, emphasized that while methadone is a legitimate medication for addiction treatment, it must only be administered under medical supervision. He warned that unauthorized distribution through non-official channels, such as herbalist shops, is a criminal offense and that police will continue to strictly enforce the law against such illegal activities.
