Iranian law enforcement anti-narcotics operations
Overview
Law enforcement agencies in Iran have conducted several operations targeting drug trafficking and the illegal distribution of narcotics.
In Lorestan, police executed the 29th phase of the ‘Peace in the City’ operation, resulting in the arrest of 184 individuals, including 25 major traffickers and 159 small-scale retailers. This operation led to the seizure of over 110 kilograms of opium and the confiscation of 11 vehicles.
In southern Tehran, authorities dismantled a distribution center operating out of an herbalist shop. The raid resulted in the seizure of 770 grams of opium, 90 liters of methadone syrup, and 22,000 tablets of methadone and tramadol. Colonel Ali Asgari, head of the Fateb Anti-Narcotics Police, noted that while methadone is a legitimate medication, its unauthorized distribution through non-official channels is a criminal offense.
