Tehran Stock Exchange indices fall amid heavy selling pressure
The Tehran Stock Exchange experienced a significant downturn on Wednesday, following a period of consecutive growth. The main index fell by approximately 79,970 units, ending at 6,503,000. In the opening hour of trading, the index saw an even sharper drop of nearly 100,000 units, briefly falling below the 6.5 million mark.
The decline was driven by widespread selling pressure across a large portion of the market. Reports indicate that approximately 700 symbols traded in negative territory, while around 320 symbols faced sell queues. This selling trend was not limited to major index-making stocks but affected a broad segment of the market.
Liquidity movements show a notable outflow of retail capital. Following a loss of approximately 4.4 trillion tomans by retail investors on Tuesday, an additional 4 trillion tomans was withdrawn during Wednesday's trading. Despite the index drop, trading volume remained substantial, with total transaction value reaching approximately 43.4 trillion tomans.
