Nepal and Tibet floods: Over 540 dead after massive glacier collapse FAST-MOVING
A catastrophic glacier collapse in the Himalayas has triggered massive flash floods and landslides across the border region of Nepal and Tibet, China. The disaster, which began on August 26, has resulted in a death toll exceeding 540 people, with official counts in Nepal reaching 547. More than 1,500 people remain missing across both territories, including hundreds of foreign tourists, pilgrims, and trekkers visiting sacred sites like Mount Kailash.
The geological event involved a large section of a glacier collapsing, which sent a massive surge of ice, rock, and mud through river valleys at high speeds. The UN warns that at least 17,000 children are in urgent need of assistance, and there is a growing risk of infectious diseases due to displacement and disrupted sanitation services.
