Tel-Sen calls for transparency in fiber optic infrastructure rollout
Hakan Üredi, President of the Turkish Cypriot Public, Transport, Communication, Information Technology and Telecommunications Workers' Union (Tel-Sen), has called for transparency regarding the implementation of fiber optic infrastructure. While expressing support for faster and higher-quality internet services for citizens and businesses, Üredi emphasized that the debate should not focus on the technology itself, but on the conditions of the investment.
Key concerns raised include the investment model, authority over public infrastructure, the use of public resources, and the balance of competition within the sector. Üredi noted that an additional protocol signed on August 19 has not been shared with the union, internet service providers, or various economic organizations.
Furthermore, the union is demanding the public release of a feasibility report that has been requested for over a year. Üredi stated that the true cost, scope of work, and financing model of the fiber investment can only be properly evaluated through this detailed report.
