Tel-Sen warns against risks to strategic telecommunications infrastructure

Hakan Üredi, President of the Tel-Sen union, has warned that telecommunications infrastructure is a strategic public asset that must remain under public control and oversight.

Üredi expressed concerns regarding the increasing reliance of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Türk Telekom for its strategic telecommunications infrastructure. He noted that reports in the Turkish media suggesting Türk Telekom may be prepared for resale highlight the risks of transferring strategic authority to private entities.

The union argues that transferring revenue-generating areas, infrastructure, and strategic powers away from the Telecommunications Department could intentionally sideline the public institution. Üredi emphasized that the core issue is not the nationality of the company, but rather the protection of public assets and the preservation of the public's right to decision-making and oversight.
