Telangana activists demand transparency in electoral roll revision

Activists and civil society organizations in Telangana have called for increased transparency regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. In representations submitted to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharshan Reddy, the groups raised concerns over the notice and hearing process.

Critics argue that the current notices issued to voters are often vague, citing general reasons such as “name mismatched,” “age difference,” or “not mapped” without providing specific details regarding the nature of the discrepancy. Activists are demanding that voters receive written notice detailing the exact mismatch, including comparisons between current electoral roll data and 2002 SIR information.

Furthermore, there are calls for a digital mechanism to allow voters to track the status of their cases. Current concerns include a lack of access to details uploaded by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and no clear way for citizens to verify if their submitted documents have been accepted or if further action is required. The final electoral roll for the state is scheduled for publication on November 11.
